Film fans across Scotland are rejoicing as the prospect of a horror movie based on
the scariest creature in the country takes a step closer to hitting the big screen.

In the summer of 2023, JD Kirk, author of the DCI Jack Logan series, pitched an
idea to his Facebook followers about a horror film centred around midges, the tiny,
biting insects that plague the Highlands for half the year.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, and soon JD was being contacted by
journalists from across the globe, who had picked up on the growing ‘Midge-mania’
among his readers.

Amidst all the hype and hysteria, JD teamed up with award-winning commercial and
drama director, Alessio Avezzano, before writing a feature length script based on the
premise.

Midgies follows a woman and her daughter after their attempts to reconnect over a
fun day out in the Highlands descends into a desperate fight for survival. With the
help of an elderly couple, they escape to the safety of an underground bunker.

And that’s when their problems really begin…

Zertex Productions, a division of Zertex Media Ltd, was delighted to be involved in
the production of a short teaser trailer designed to build interest in the film. Scripted
by JD, directed by Alessio, and with the support of a talented cast and crew, the
trailer was released last month to an incredibly positive reception, and has already
been viewed over a million times across different formats.
